For doctors working in acute hospitals, community settings and General Practice

Would you like to know the best way to manage patients presenting with symptoms of dementia? The aim of this workshop is to provide participants working in a range of clinical settings - including acute hospitals, community settings and GP practices - with up-to-date guidelines in preventing, diagnosing, and managing dementia and associated symptoms.

The workshop will include problem-solving considerations and panel discussions centred on the workshop themes, with questions and observations from the audience encouraged.

The day will be broken into three sessions and topics include:

  • Frontotemporal Dementia- Emerging concepts in the classification and treatment
  • Late life depression in Ireland and its relationship to cognitive disorders- aetiology and management
  • Neurolinguistics: Principles and practice of assessing language in a memory service
  • Interpretation and application of neuropsychological assessments in clinically subtyping dementia
  • Clinical and legal perspectives on managing self-neglect in people living with dementia- autonomy versus risk
  • Key aspects of the neurological examination when assessing cognitive impairment or dementia
  • Disclosing a diagnosis of dementia - challenges and opportunities
