This event is for:

Health and social care professionals, including GPs, dietitians, nurses, nutritionists, physicians, physiotherapists, psychologists; people living with obesity; media professionals; those working with people with obesity; anyone with an interest in obesity, patient involvement, and addressing stigma.

People living with obesity and their families are welcome and encouraged to attend either or both days – particularly the half-day event on Saturday 18 May – with only a nominal fee charged.

What are the objectives of this event?

To educate healthcare professionals:

1. Working together with patients betters their practice and patient outcomes
2. We need to end obesity stigma as it drives rather than reduces unhealthy behaviours.

From the patient & family perspective:

1. Promote a better understanding of the genetics of body weight
2. Encourage people to get involved in advocacy via an Irish patient council
3. Promote family-wide health behaviours.

These objectives also tie in with two of the three legacy aims of ECO-ICO 2020 which we will host in Ireland from 17-20 May 2020:

1. Education of health professionals
2. Establishing a national patient council for Ireland.
